THDistance English learning with the Coronavirus

It is impossible or inadvisable to travel in these difficult times, but why not make the best of an awful situation?  We suggest that you use this sad time while you are in lockdown or working less to start or continue your English language improvement with us.

How to make the most of distance learning

Here at Trebinshun House, students have been visiting us for over forty years to take part in our intensive, residential programmes and we have been offering Distance English lessons for some time.  Technology has improved to the extent where we can simulate the face-to-face contact (but unfortunately without access to Ken’s food!).

  1. Flexibility
Distance learning is a very flexible way to study as you can choose when and where you study.  You can fit your study around your other commitments and use your laptop, tablet or even smartphone. You can work your lesson into your schedule.  There would typically be an agreed focus which you can prepare before the session; your teacher will then guide you and give you feedback (just like at Trebinshun).

  2. Maintain your progress
In the present coronavirus climate you can either have an intensive course of, perhaps, a Distance English lesson each day or you can choose a weekly or twice-weekly session to maintain regular language practice. Distance lessons can provide you with an opportunity to prepare for the future. You may simply want to maintain your level and research shows that regular practice is essential for doing that.

  3. Real-life practice
Many of our students work for international companies where they frequently need to handle video conferences or phone calls. Practising with the support of your teacher, using the same tools as you do in your everyday working life means that speaking English on the phone or via Skype becomes second nature. With fewer clues available from body language, the focus does really need to be on your pronunciation and vocabulary choice – thus you become more accurate and precise.

  4. Perhaps you have been meaning to improve your English for years but never had the time in a busy life. This might be the opportunity!

  5. The cost is very reasonable: you could try a “taster” course of 3 lessons for the price of 2 which is £64 or you can choose blocks of 10 sessions at a time at a cost of £320.
